Oil Changes, Fluids, and Tune-ups

The single most important thing you can do for your car or truck is to keep up with its basic needs.  When you were learning to drive, you might have been told that if you change your oil regularly, you can keep your car forever.  Well, forever is a long time, but the truth is that regular oil changes along with watching other fluids such as your transmission oil and radiator coolant will keep your engine running smoothly and will absolutely extend the life of your vehicle.

How often should I change my oil?

Debates on how often you need to change your oil have been doing on since the earliest days of automobiles. You can look at five different sources and get five different answers about how often your oil needs to be changed.

The truth is that there is no single answer to the question.  It all depends on how you drive, how often you drive, the distances you travel, and most importantly, the type of vehicle you have and the type of oil you use.

Should I Change from Regular to Synthetic Oil?

Generally speaking, you should stick to using the type of oil the car was designed to use.  If your vehicle carries heavy loads or your engine has a lot of sludge built up, synthetic oil can help to ease the strain on the engine and prolong the life of the vehicle.  Speak with us before you make the switch and we will let you know of it is worth the change.  Every situation is different.

More Than an Oil Change

Maintaining a car or truck is more than an oil change.  We will check all your fluids and filters.  We will also check other areas of the vehicle.  Depending on the mileage, we may recommend additional maintenance tasks.  We will check transmission fluid, coolant levels, and even things like timing chain or belt.  A car does not depend solely on one single part.  There are quite literally hundreds of parts, gears, pads, switches, sensors, belts, and gaskets that have to all work in unison to keep your vehicle safe and running smooth.

Brakes

Your brakes are the most important feature of your car.  If you can’t stop, it is going to be a bad day.

Inspections

All vehicles registered in New York are required to undergo an annual, safety and emissions inspection.

Engines

There are almost as many types of engines as there are vehicles on the road.

Tires

Your car is a complex network of systems with the sole purpose of getting the wheels to turn or stop.
